TOEFL 2026 Guide

The Ultimate TOEFL 2026 Ready Checklist

Don't walk into the test center unprepared. The 2026 format is unforgiving to those who don't know exactly what to expect. Use this checklist in the final week before your exam to ensure you are 100% ready.

Phase 1: Academic Preparation

  • Take a 2026 Mock Exam: Have you completed at least one full-length mock test featuring the new shorter timings and new task types?
  • Understand the 1-6 Bands: Do you know exactly what a Band 4, Band 5, or Band 6 looks like in Speaking and Writing according to the official ETS rubrics?
  • Master the "Email" Task: Have you practiced the new email-writing format, ensuring you can hit your target word count within the time limit?
  • Nail the "Listen-and-Repeat": Are you comfortable with the cadence of the new speaking task without freezing?

Phase 2: Technical & Logistics (Test Center)

  • Valid ID: Do you have the correct, original, unexpired ID required for your country? (Usually a passport).
  • Route Planned: Do you know exactly how long it takes to get to the test center? Arrive at least 30 minutes early.
  • Clothing: Are you dressed in layers? Test centers can be unpredictably cold or hot.

Phase 3: Technical & Logistics (Home Edition)

  • Equipment Check: Have you run the ETS ProctorU equipment check on the exact computer and network you will use?
  • Room Setup: Is your testing room completely private? Clear your desk of everything except your whiteboard and marker.
  • Whiteboard Ready: Do you have a small desktop whiteboard or a piece of paper inside a transparent sleeve, plus erasable markers? (No regular scratch paper is allowed for the Home Edition).

Not Ready Yet?

If you couldn't check off the items in Phase 1, you need to practice. Don't waste money on the real exam fee if you aren't prepared for the new format.
