The New Email Task
As part of the 2026 redesign, the TOEFL introduced the Email Writing task to better reflect modern communication. You will be given a scenario—such as requesting an extension from a professor or organizing a group project with classmates—and you must draft an appropriate email.
Scoring Criteria

- Tone and Register: Is your tone appropriate for the recipient? (e.g., formal for a professor, semi-formal for a classmate).
- Language Use: Are your grammar and vocabulary accurate and varied?
